November is National Adoption Awareness Month

NEBRASKA (November 3, 2015) Each year, November is celebrated as National Adoption Awareness Month to recognize individuals and families who have been touched by adoption.  We honor adoptive families, foster families, children who are adopted, children waiting to be adopted and the women and men who have made the decision to place their children for adoption. Nebraska Children’s Home Society (NCHS) invites the community to help in our endeavor to increase adoption awareness.  

Here are a few ideas on how individuals can help promote awareness: • Ask your local library to feature a display of adoption books and resources   • Offer to read an adoption book to your child’s class at school • Invite an adoptive family, adopted person or birth parent  to share their story at your church, school, civic organization or business • Send a thank you note to a social worker or adoption agency • Organize a Jeans Day at your place of work, and donate money raised to NCHS • Learn more about becoming an NCHS Foster Parent • Follow NCHS on Facebook  • Increase your knowledge about adoption by visiting the NCHS resources listed on our website, www.nchs.org

Mark Your Calendars National Adoption Day is Saturday November 21, 2015. In courtrooms across the country, judges will finalize adoptions for foster children who will join their forever families. Many older children remain in foster care awaiting placement into a loving home.  Often these children have spent a great deal of time in foster care and long for a permanent home to call their own.  At Nebraska Children’s Home Society (NCHS), we work to connect children needing permanency with families that are willing and able to make a child a forever part of their family.
