Nebraska Children’s Home Society’s Sand in the City® Returns for 11th Year
OMAHA, Neb. (May 13, 2014) Nebraska Children’s Home Society’s Sand in the City® Returns for 11th Year.
Who: Nebraska Children’s Home Society (NCHS) organizes the event and recruits 19 corporate teams to work with 11 master sand sculptors, local architects, and engineers to build 15-ton sand sculptures. Families enjoy a weekend filled with fun, child-friendly activities. Local teams competing include ConAgra Foods, Creighton University, First National Bank, Gallup, Grace University, HDR, Inc./Lamp Rynearson & Assoc.,. Hilton Omaha, Kiewit Engineering, Kiewit Underground District, Millard Rotary, Olsson Associates, QLI, SAC Federal Credit Union/Leo A Daly, Sheppard’s Business Interiors, Strategic Health Solutions, TD Ameritrade, Travel and Transport, TSYS Merchant Solutions, and Walmart.
When/ What: Tuesday, June 3, 2014 –400 tons of sand is delivered throughout the day Friday, June 6, 2014 – Sand Sculpting Competition 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. – Teams compete to build the best sand sculptures **Great Visuals! 4 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. – Local celebrity & design professional judging of sculptures, followed by awards Best Video/ Photos: Afternoon as sculptures take shape or during the awards at 4:30pm Saturday, June 7, 2014 –Family Fun Day 10 a.m. – 8 p.m. – Open to General Public, Free Admission, Donations Welcome Best Video/Photos: Afternoon as the grand display becomes more detailed, visitors peak around noon and into the afternoon NEW! Saturday, June 7, 2014 –After Dark Party 7 p.m. –midnight –Open to the General Public, no cover charge, 21 and over event featuring the band Hidden Agenda. Hilton Omaha Downtown, 10th & Cass Street. Free appetizers, 10% of drink purchases donated to NCHS. Sunday, June 8, 2014-– Family Fun Day 11a.m. – 5 p.m. – Open to General Public, Free Admission, Donations Welcome Best Video/Photos: All day Family Fun Day Activities (Open to the General Public * No Admission Charged * Donations support NCHS) View amazing 15-ton sand sculptures built by local teams. Watch 11 master sand sculptors carve a 45-ton “Family Fun in the Summer Sun” themed sculpture complete with images representing the joys of childhood. Play in the interactive Fat Brain Toys’ Kid Zone complete with games, toys, face painting, bounce houses, and two GIGANTIC sandboxes. Watch local acts perform on the main stage. Cast your vote for the “People’s Choice” award winner by voting with Sand Dollars you purchase for $1. One Sand Dollar equals one vote. Concessions available include turkey legs, pulled pork sandwiches, and ParadICE Shaved Ice.
Where: NEW LOCATION! CenturyLink Center Lot B2, 10th & Mike Fahey Street, Omaha Why: To raise awareness and funds for children and families served through Nebraska Children’s Home Society. NCHS serves through statewide pregnancy, parenting and adoption services, foster care, early childhood education, one-on-one support to teens and young parents, and neighborhood-based outreach.
