NCHS’S SAND IN THE CITY® RETURNS TO OMAHA THE FIRST WEEKEND IN JUNE
OMAHA, Neb. (May 29, 2015) Four hundred (400) tons of sand, 18 local corporate and community teams, 200 volunteers, and 11 master sand sculptors add up to one terrific event that will transform downtown Omaha into a mini-beach the first weekend in June.
Nebraska Children’s Home Society (NCHS) invites you to experience NCHS’s Sand in the City®, June 5-7, 2015, at CenturyLink Center Lot B2 (10th & Mike Fahey St.). On June 5, over 350 adults from local corporations and organizations will pound, carve and sculpt sand into temporary works of art for visitors to view the weekend of June 6-7. In addition to sand sculpture viewing, the weekend event activities will include an interactive Fat Brain Toys’ Kid Zone, a main stage of local performance and musical acts, concessions, professional master sand sculptor demonstrations, and “People’s Choice” award voting. Visitors may purchase sand dollars for $1 and vote for their favorite sculpture. The team with the most sand dollars will win the “People’s Choice” award. All proceeds benefit the Nebraska Children’s Home Society, which provides year-round services to children and families throughout Nebraska. NCHS services include foster care, pregnancy services, parenting services, adoption and postadoption services, early childhood education, teen and young adult services and neighborhoodbased services.
A 45-ton grand display will be carved by 11 master sand sculptors on Saturday. The finished sculpture can be viewed on Sunday.
