What to Expect
These informative sessions aim to equip you with the knowledge and understanding needed to make an informed decision about becoming a foster parent. You'll learn about the fostering process through NCHS, including the application process, training requirements, and post-placement support. We understand that every potential foster parent comes with unique questions and concerns, which is why we dedicate a significant portion of the session to answering your queries.
One of the critical aspects we cover is the role and responsibilities of a foster parent. This includes understanding the needs of foster children, managing transitions, facilitating contact with the children's families, and supporting the child emotionally.
In addition, we discuss the support system NCHS has in place for its foster parents. This includes ongoing training, access to resources, and continued assistance. We also highlight the importance of self-care for foster parents, emphasizing that taking care of oneself is crucial to providing the best care for a foster child.
We also touch upon the joys and challenges that come with being a foster parent. Real-life experiences are shared to provide a holistic understanding of what to expect when you bring a child in foster care into your home.
The ultimate goal of these sessions is to help you ascertain whether fostering aligns with your lifestyle and family dynamics. It's essential to us that every child is placed in a home that is prepared and excited to welcome them. These information meetings are the first step towards that goal.
