COVID-19 Response

April 23, 2020 | 3 min read

You, along with many others in our community, are likely experiencing some form of disruption in your routine. The coronavirus has upended many of our lives whether it be school, work or our daily interactions with others.

Right now we are all worried about the needs of our families, the needs of our neighbors and the needs of our community.

How we continue to serve

At Nebraska Children’s Home Society, we’re continuing to serve families and communities throughout Nebraska because the need for safe and loving care only grows during times like these.

We have taken measures to ensure that our team and those we serve are safe and healthy as we continue to support children in foster care, healthy family relationships, and women and families who request guidance during their pregnancy. Our in-person interactions have been suspended with the exception of relinquishments, but we are working by email, phone, and video conference to maintain connections and provide resources to those who need it.

We’re staying up to date on all official updates. Our team is constantly evaluating what these updates mean for clients, staff, and the community and creating or adjusting plans as quickly possible.

How you can help during this uncertain time

Your financial support helps us to continue to fund our program needs and assist those we serve who have been impacted by Coronavirus, and your gifts are needed now. The need is urgent. There has been a drastic drop in donations over the last two months and we’ve had to cancel our Dueling Pianos event, which would normally bring in additional donations and sponsorships during the month of April. While the world slows down, abuse and neglect won’t. The people who would normally notice and report it, like teachers and doctors, won’t be able to do so in the weeks and months ahead.

Our team continues to connect with families to reduce stress and provide resources and encouragement, but we are expecting it to get worse with the extra burdens families are experiencing because of the coronavirus. If you would like to provide essential items directly to children and families we serve, you can browse our Wish List. The items we are seeing the most demand for are diapers, wipes and grocery store gift cards. Our offices are temporarily closed to the public, so please contact us at donations@nchs.org before attempting to drop off any donated items.

We are here for children and families in need

We remain available to help and serve you. We will be here when this is all over. Like you, we aren’t sure what the full impact is going to be on the community, but we do know this – we will be needed more than ever before.

If you or someone you know needs family services, please contact us at 402.451.0787 or send us an email.
