COLUMBUS COUPLE TO RECEIVE FRIENDS OF CHILDREN AWARD Dr. Peter and Ruth Diedrichsen to be recognized by Nebraska Children’s Home Society

OMAHA, Neb. (December 6, 2013) Dr. Peter and Ruth Diedrichsen will recognized with The Harris Van Oort Friends of Children Award by Nebraska Children’s Home Society at its 120th anniversary and awards banquet on December 14, 2013.  The Harris Van Oort Friends of Children Award is presented to individuals who have been a positive influence in the lives of children.

“It is indeed an honor to be able to present an award that is named to honor the work that was done during my tenure at NCHS,” said former NCHS Executive Director Harris VanOort, the namesake of the award.  “What makes this award even more special to me is that I had the honor of working with the recipients when they adopted children. It is my honor to be associated with them.”

Dr. Peter and Ruth Diedrichsen and their children make their home in Columbus on an acreage that could  be described as urban and rural at the same time. Peter is an Ophthalmologist with Eye Physicians LLC., where Ruth is the payroll and employee benefits clerk. They are advocates of children and work toward the betterment of their community. They active in their church, 4H, the Arts Council, and serving  teen mothers in their area.

As their children would attest, they have exemplified the heart, patience and perseverance needed to be good parents. For their commitment to providing safe and loving care for children and enhancing the well-being of children and families in their community, the Nebraska Children’s Home Society is presenting the Diedrichsen family with the Harris Van Oort Friends of Children Award.
